McGill's drivers support Cash for Kids

McGill's drivers launched a fundraising mission to support local children

Throughout December, McGill's raised almost £300 for Cash for Kids, and donated presents for children to receive at Christmas.

On Friday 15 December, employees took part in Christmas Jumper Day and wore their festive jumpers to work, with each staff member who took part donating £1. Throughout the day there was Santa suits, festive jumpers and elf hats - and overall was a great day, and delighted customers boarding their bus.

Inchinnan drivers also donated presents to local children through the charity.

The thoughtful gesture from the drivers was organised by Sarah White, who had seen the Paisley Centre Giving Tree. "I had seen the fundraising idea in the local Paisley Centre and thought it would be a great chance for myself and colleagues to try and make a difference to a child's Christmas. There's over 130 of us in the depot and would allow us to give something back."

Throughout December, drivers would take a tag off the tree in their depot, with details of a child's age ranging from 0-16, and buy them a gift.

Sarah added: "The tree was donated by driver David Wood, and I made enough tags so every driver was able to take one. Any gift we received back, either big or small, was greatly appreciated and we donated all the presents to Cash for Kids. I'm really proud of my team for their support with the gifts they purchased, I hope it brought a little extra cheer to the children who received them."

Local business, Magical Maids, also got involved by donating 20 selection boxes. Presents bought by the drivers included a basketball hoop, drone, books, jigsaws, and lots of other toys.

Debbie Fraser, Regional Charity Manager, for Radio Clyde Cash for Kids said: "It is generous gestures such as this from McGill's staff that will help children living in poverty here in Glasgow have a better Christmas day. We can't thank them enough and will ensure the toys are distributed immediately to groups we work with who need them the most."
