Happy Transport Planning Day 2020!

On Monday 16th November, we celebrate Transport Planning Day.

When thinking of those who work at a bus company, you are likely to think of drivers, mechanics, cleaners and inspectors, but at McGill's Head Office in Greenock sits a team you might not know exist!

Our Commercial Team have the complicated task of planning our timetables, among a long list of other responsibilities. They must consider a range of variables when compiling their plans, such as congestion & customer travelling patterns, vehicle capacity.

This year has been incredibly challenging for the team. On more that one occasion, they managed to cram weeks worth of work into a matter of days, to keep our services operating throughout lockdown.

So, how do you even get into such a job, you may ask.

Everyone in our Commercial Team has worked in other areas of the transport sector, ensuring that they have a full and well rounded understanding of what is needed to make our services as reliable and effective as possible.

Our Head of Commercial, Douglas King is the newest addition to the team, after joining us from TransDev last year. With a wealth of planning knowledge, Douglas started his career as a bus driver for another operator.

Jack Harkness has worked for the company for 24 years, starting out as a driver, then climbing the ladder to Duty Manager, Assistant Depot Manager and then Depot Manager. Jack has been in his current role of Commerical Manager for 5 years.

Jordanne McIntyre spent two years working in our Customer Service Department, before moving into her current role of Commercial Officer 4 years ago.

Chris Maloney joined the team last year as a Commercial Officer, after working as a driver for 3 years at  our Johnstone depot, where he was usually found behind the wheel of our 38 service.

On Transport Planning Day, we celebrate our Commercial Team, their unique skills and the volume of hard work they have put in to keep our services on the road this year!
